Kilo Hōkū Version 0.3 Finalized

The latest version of Kilo Hōkū features a number of improvements over previous releases.  In this update, we have changed the following:

  • Enhanced the quality of the texture used to display the stars in the sky, resulting in better visuals.
  • Improved the scaling of the Hōkūleʻa model to be more realistic.
  • Adjusted lighting to give a better feel of a night-time scene.
  • The model hoe uli or steering sweep has been updated to be more realistic looking.

We have also added the following new features:

  • A description of each controllerʻs buttons and their function will now appear when the user looks at either controller.
  • The western and Hawaiian names (where applicable) will appear for constellations when they are pointed at.
  • Users may now teleport to various places around the Hōkūleʻa.

Our next update to the simulation will feature additional guides through the sky such as the celestial horizon and meridian, and the ability for an external viewer to enable and disable certain features such as hiding parts of the Star Compass.
